What is the Character Counter?
A character counter tells you exactly how many characters a piece of text contains, so a post, text message, meta description or application answer fits its limit. AnyShift counts characters as you see them — an emoji or accented letter counts as one — plus characters without spaces, letters, digits, spaces, lines, words and UTF-8 bytes, updating as you type.
Live bars compare your text with common limits: X post 280, Instagram caption 2,200, LinkedIn post 3,000, TikTok caption 4,000, YouTube title 100, Google Ads headline 30, meta title 60, meta description 160 and a 160-character SMS. Counting happens in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
How to use the Character Counter
- Type or paste your text into the Text box (a short sample is loaded to start).
- Read the totals — Characters, Without spaces, Letters, Digits, Spaces, Lines, Words and Bytes (UTF-8) — which update as you type.
- Scroll to Platform limits: each bar fills up and turns red when you go over that limit.
- Edit until the limits you need are within range, then copy your text back; click Clear to start again.
