What is the Speech to Text Converter?
A speech to text converter turns spoken words into written text. AnyShift offers two ways: live dictation, which types your words as you speak using your browser’s built-in speech recognition, and private file transcription, which runs OpenAI’s Whisper model on your own device to transcribe an audio or video recording.
Live dictation works in Chrome, Edge and Safari; in Chrome the audio may be processed by Google’s speech service. File transcription downloads a Whisper model once from Hugging Face (about 40, 80 or 250 MB depending on the accuracy you pick), then transcribes on your device with no upload, in 18 listed languages or auto-detect, with punctuation and optional timestamps.
How to convert SPEECH to text
- For live typing, choose your language (e.g. English (UK)) and click Start dictation, then allow microphone access.
- Speak naturally — words appear in the box; click Stop dictation when you finish, then Copy or Download .txt.
- To transcribe a recording instead, set the Spoken language and Accuracy, then drop an audio or video file under Transcribe a recording privately.
- Wait while the model downloads (first time only) and the audio is transcribed on your device.
- Copy the text or download it as .txt, .SRT or .DOCX; tick Include timestamps to add [hh:mm:ss] markers.
