What is the Text Summarizer?
A text summarizer shortens a long piece of writing to its key points. AnyShift uses extractive summarization with the TextRank algorithm: it scores every sentence by how strongly it connects to the rest of the text, keeps the most central ones (30% of sentences by default) and returns them in their original order, so the summary uses the author’s exact words and never invents facts.
Pick a length from 10% to 60% of sentences and show the result as a paragraph or key-point bullets; the word count and percentage saved appear under the summary. It runs entirely in your browser, with no AI model download and no upload.
How to use the Text Summarizer
- Paste an article, report or essay — ideally several paragraphs — into the text box.
- Drag the Summary length slider between 10% and 60% of sentences.
- Choose the Format: Paragraph or Key points.
- The summary updates automatically; check the “words → words (% shorter)” line and click Copy summary.

Extractive vs AI (abstractive) summaries
| Extractive (this tool) | Abstractive (AI chatbots) | |
|---|---|---|
| Wording | Original sentences, unchanged | Rewritten in new words |
| Accuracy | Cannot add facts that aren’t in the text | Can misstate or invent details |
| Readability | Can feel choppy between sentences | Usually smooth |
| Privacy | Runs in your browser | Text is usually sent to a server |
| Best for | Quotable key points, study notes | Plain-language rewrites |
How TextRank works here: sentences are compared by the meaningful words they share, scored with a PageRank-style algorithm (opening sentences get a small boost, as in news writing), and the top-scoring sentences are kept in their original order. For recordings, use the Audio Transcript Summarizer.
